The Kansas City Chiefs are a Missouri-based American football franchise. The Chiefs are a part of the NFL’s American Football Conference (AFC) West division.
The Dallas Texans were established in 1960 by industrialist Lamar Hunt and were an AFL founder member. Moving to Kansas City in April 1963 gave the squad its present nickname.
The Chiefs entered the NFL in 1970 and are now worth over $2 billion. Clark Hunt, Hunt’s son, is CEO. In 2006, Hunt died, leaving his wife and children his ownership holdings, although Clark remains the Chiefs’ operations president, representing them at all league meetings and making personnel decisions.

Lamar Hunt was an American businessman who was most known for promoting American football, soccer, and tennis in the United States. He was born on August 2, 1932, and died on December 13, 2006.
He was a co-founder of World Championship Tennis, as well as the American Football League (AFL) and Major League Soccer (MLS), as well as MLS’s predecessor, the North American Soccer League (NASL).
He also founded and controlled the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL), the Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer (MLS), and two additional MLS teams, the Columbus Crew and FC Dallas, at the time of his death. Hunt was also instrumental in the establishment of the Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun amusement parks in Kansas City.
