Mark Walter is an American businessman and the chief executive officer of Guggenheim Partners, a privately held global financial services firm with more than $310 billion in assets under management and headquarters in Chicago and New York.

A native Cedar Rapidian and a Jefferson High School alumnus, Walter was raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1996, he and Steven E. Johnson formed the Liberty Hampshire Company, LLC, in Chicago.

Guggenheim Partners, LLC was founded in 2000 by him and a group of other investors. With more than $260 billion in assets under administration and 2,300 people in six locations around the world, Guggenheim Partners is now a worldwide financial services organization with a global reach.

Guggenheim Baseball Management LLC, a private company founded in 2011 to acquire the Los Angeles Dodgers, completed its successful purchase of the famous baseball team on May 1, 2012.

Peter Guber, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Stan Kasten, Todd Boehly, and Bobby Patton are his partners in Guggenheim Baseball Management.

In 2018, Billie Jean King and her business partner Ilana Kloss became part owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers. It was in September 2019 when Alan Smolinsky and Robert L. Plummer became shareholders.

The SportsBusiness Journal ranked Walter 8th on its annual list of the “50 Most Influential People in Sports Business” on December 10, 2012, because of the Dodgers purchase.

Ed Walter is the proud father of Mark Walter. The Urban Land Institute (ULI), a global real estate organization with more than 40,000 members, is led by Ed Walter.

Ed is a highly recognized real estate industry expert and most recently the Steers Chair in Real Estate at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. As of June 2018, Walter was a member of the ULI executive team.
