Shailene Diann Woodley is an actor and activist from the United States. Woodley was born on November 15, 1991, in San Bernardino, California, and reared in Simi Valley, where she began modeling and acting professionally in modest television parts at the age of four.
Woodley grew up in the California town of Simi Valley. Lori (née Victor), her mother, is a school counselor, and Lonnie Woodley, her father, is a school administrator. Her younger brother is her only sibling.
Shailene Diann was diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of 15 and was fitted with a plastic brace that ran from her chest to her hips to keep her spine from twisting any further. She began modeling at the age of four and attended Simi Valley High School. She also studied acting with Anthony Meindl.
Woodley made her film debut in 2011 with The Descendants and then went on to star in The Spectacular Now, a coming-of-age film (2013). She received a Cannes Trophée Chopard as well as a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture for the former, and a special jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival for the latter.
