The Chicago White Sox is a Major League Baseball team situated in the city’s South Side neighborhood. Having played in Chicago since the league was founded in 1901 as one of the original eight founding members, they are considered American League pioneers.
It was in 2005 that they won their third World Series title and sixth American League pennant. Since its inception in 1919, Chicago has had one of the most unique, tough, and renowned histories in Major League Baseball.
Originally, the team was known as the Sioux City Cornhuskers and competed in the Western League of Minor League Baseball. In November 1893, Ban Johnson was elected President of the WL. When the Cornhuskers made their debut in 1894, they won the Western League Pennant for the first time. Comiskey had referred Johnson to the Cincinnati Reds as a reporter since he was friends with the former St. Louis Browns stand-out and the team’s manager.
It wasn’t until after the 1894 season that Comiskey’s contract with the Reds expired that he chose to become a Reds owner. At some point after purchasing the Sioux City club, Paul acquired the franchise and moved it to Saint Paul, where the team was given his new name, the Saints, and had some success during his tenure as owner.
