The Charleston Open was Tomljanovi’s first clay-court tournament of the year. She defeated previous year’s semifinalist Stefanie Vögele in the first round.
Zhang Shuai, the 16th seed, was knocked out of the tournament in the second round. She was knocked out in the third round by second seed Jelena Jankovi.
Tomljanovi upset Carina Witthöft, Sachia Vickery, and No. 5 seed Mona Barthel to earn a spot in the main draw of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. Alisa Kleybanova defeated Tomljanovi in the opening round of the women’s singles championship tournament.
In the first round of qualifying at the Madrid Open, she was defeated by Katarzyna Piter, who was seeded 13th. At the Internazionali d’Italia, she was beaten in the second round of qualifying by Chanelle Scheepers, 6–2, 6–0.
Tomljanovi fell to Zarina Diyas in the second round of the Internationaux de Strasbourg, her final tournament before the French Open. In the first round of the French Open, she defeated 2010 French Open winner Francesca Schiavone, who was ranked No. 72 at the time.
She defeated 32nd seed Elena Vesnina in two sets in the second round. Her Grand Slam streak came to an end when she fell to 14th seed Carla Suárez Navarro, who had upset third seed Agnieszka Radwanska en route to the fourth round.
