In September 2016, as part of the 2016-2017 international free agency season, Alejandro was signed by the Blue Jays.
A car accident as a 17-year-old rookie caused an injury, delaying regular playing time in the minor leagues.
Because of this, he was not able to play in the Blue Jays organization for a complete season until 2018, when, at the age of 25, his wRC+ was an incredible 160.
Kirk’s greatest level of play prior to his possible MLB debut in 2020 was high A ball. He hit.929 with a.929 on-base percentage in 2018 and 2019.
The Blue Jays organization has had him since the fall of 2016, yet he is still a prospect at the age of 22.
Baseball America ranks his ‘Hit’ tool as a ’70’, and it is by far the most promising component of his game at 5’8″ and 265 lbs.
Alejandro’s other tools, as well as his overall minor league growth, are causes for concern. His arm and power are both averages (50), but his running and fielding are both below average (20 & 45 respectively).
In terms of his growth, he only had two full seasons in 2018 and 2019, and, like so many others, a canceled 2020 season left him with another gap (with the exception of his brief MLB call up).
