Approximately 30 years after the initial movie’s release, Hocus Pocus 2 made its Disney+ debut on Friday and stars the original Sanderson Sisters.
All three of the witches from the 1990 film are present in the 2022 version, along with Doug Jones’ interpretation of Billy Butcherson, a well-known zombie. Other new cast members include Gossip Girl’s Whitney Peak, who plays Becca, and American Horror Stories’ Belissa Escobedo, who plays Izzy.
In Hocus Pocus 2, three ladies unintentionally transport the Sanderson Sisters to present-day Salem and must devise a plan to prevent the witches from unleashing havoc. After the release of Hocus Pocus 2, Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays Sarah Sanderson, is 57 years old at the time this article is being written. In 2022, Winifred Sanderson, played by Better Midler, is 76 years old and is currently the oldest, and Mary Sanderson, portrayed by Kathy Najimy, is 65. Following their appearances in the first Hocus Pocus film, which was released nearly three decades ago, all three of them have returned as the three witches in the sequel. Sarah Jessica Parker was 28 years old, Better Midler was 47, and Kathy Najimy was 36 when the original film debuted in theaters in October 1993.
Sarah admitted during a Q&A session at the New York film screening that she never imagined a sequel would ever happen.
