Who Is Louis Leterrier?

Louis Leterrier is a French film filmmaker whose credits include the first two Transporter films, Unleashed, The Incredible Hulk, Clash of the Titans, Now You See Me, and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, as well as the streaming television series.

Leterrier is the son of filmmaker François Leterrier and costume designer Catherine Leterrier (née Fabius), and was born in Paris.

Laurent Fabius, a politician, and François Fabius, an antiquarian, are his uncles. His mother aided him in his artistic endeavors.

Leterrier started out as a drummer in a band before dabbling with short films. He left France at the age of 18 to study cinema at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts after some training in advertising and publicity.

Louis Leterrier Career

He worked on the set of Alien Resurrection with Jean-Pierre Jeunet in 1997. When he returned to France, he worked on advertisements for Club Internet and L’Oréal, as well as the film Joan of Arc, alongside Luc Besson.

He also worked on the production of Astérix & Obélix: Mission Cléopâtre alongside Alain Chabat as the second assistant director (2002).

Louis Leterrier later directed The Transporter, an action film starring Jason Statham, in 2002.

Despite the fact that the US release names him as creative director and Corey Yuen as director, the European release’s opening titles give him directorial credit and Yuen as an action director.

Along with Chris Nahon and Pierre Morel, Leterrier later joined the so-called “Besson stable,” a group of directors working on films produced by or linked with Luc Besson.

In Unleashed, his solo debut movie, a full-length martial arts picture, he directed Jet Li (2004). Luc Besson then tasked him with directing Transporter 2, which takes place in Miami this time.

He helmed his first big-budget American film, The Incredible Hulk, in 2008, as part of a trend of French directors working in Hollywood.

His next project, a Warner Bros. remake of the 1981 Clash of the Titans, was released on April 2, 2010. Leterrier previously stated that if the latest Clash of the Titans film is a hit, he would like to start a franchise.

However, in June 2010, Jonathan Liebesman was announced as the sequel’s director, casting doubt on Leterrier’s role in future films.
