Detroit Lions is a professional football team in Detroit America. It was established in 1930; making it one of the early NFL franchises. The team started as Portsmouth Spartans from Portsmouth, Ohio.
Due to financial struggles, they relocated to their home in 1934 and took on the name Detroit Lions because the city’s baseball franchise was Tigers. The team plays its home game at Ford Field and Downtown Detroit.
