Meet Armond Armstead
Armond Armstead was born on August 3, 1990, and previously played defensive tackle for the Canadian Football League’s Toronto Argonauts and the National Football League’s New England Patriots. He attended the University of Southern California, where he played football. In 2012, as an undrafted free agent, he was signed by the Argonauts.
Armstead attended Pleasant Grove High School in Elk Grove, California. He was a Super Prep All-American, a Prep Star All-American, a Super Prep All-Farwest, a Prep Star All-West, and a Long Beach Press-Telegram All-West selection.
Honorable mention for Best in the West, Western 100, Cal-Hi Sports All-State first team, All-Northern California, Tacoma News Tribune, Sacramento Bee As a senior defensive and offensive lineman at Pleasant Grove High in Elk Grove, he was named All-Metro and All-Metro League MVP (Calif.).
In 2007, he recorded 88 tackles and 11 sacks. He has 79 tackles and five sacks as a junior in 2006.
Armstead played three seasons at the University of Southern California, starting 17 games and amassing 59 tackles. However, due to an initially unknown ailment, USC’s medical department failed to approve him to play in 2011.
He then sued the institution, alleging that team physicians gave him painkillers (Toradol), which resulted in a heart attack and jeopardized his future earning potential. In the 2012 NFL Draft, he went undrafted.
