He was born on April 26, 1989. He was an All-American college football player for the University of South Carolina. The San Diego Chargers selected him with the 18th overall pick in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He’s also been a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Ingram grew up in the little town of Hamlet, North Carolina. In Rockingham, North Carolina, he attended Richmond Senior High School. He had 87 tackles and 2.5 sacks as a senior linebacker.
From 2007 through 2011, Ingram was a member of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks football team, which was coached by Steve Spurrier. He began his career as a linebacker for the Gamecocks before transferring to the defensive end. He led the team with nine sacks as a junior in 2010.
Ingram has 10 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, and two interceptions in 2011. He also had three touchdowns to his credit. Two of his scores, including a 68-yard fake punt for a touchdown, came against Georgia in a 45–42 win in Athens.
Ingram was a first-team All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) selection and a consensus All-American during his senior season, which helped the Gamecocks defense achieve a final national poll ranking of #4.
