Croatia is represented by tennis player Nikola Mekti, a former world No. 1 in doubles. At the 2020 Australian Open, he and Barbora Krejková won the mixed doubles event. They triumphed in the men’s doubles competition at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships partnered with Mate Pavi, another citizen.
Mektic and Alexander Peya were given invitations to the 2018 ATP Finals in London. He reached his first Grand Slam final in mixed doubles at the US Open the same year Croatian players Mekti and Alicja Rosolska won the Davis Cup. Additionally, with three different partners, he won three Masters 1000 events: Madrid (2018), Indian Wells (2019), and Monte Carlo (2019).
Mekti’s most fruitful year to date in his career was 2020. In addition to winning the doubles event at the 2020 ATP Finals, he and Barbora Krejková won the mixed doubles championship at the 2020 Australian Open. Additionally, he and Wesley Koolhof made it to the 2020 US Open doubles final. With his partner Wesley Koolhof, he finished the year tied for third in the doubles standings and eighth overall in the top 10 doubles rankings.
Mektic and Pavic won their third championship of the year and 20th overall in the 2022 Queen’s Club Championships. At the 2022 Eastbourne International, the squad successfully defended its title.
