Flipo came from a musical family: their father exposed them to the Clash and Green Day, while their mother instilled in them a love of pop and R&B.
Flipo began playing the drums after their uncle gave them a set as a gift when they were nine years old. They learnt piano and guitar a few years later and played in bands ranging from metal to reggae.
They looked up to Jenny Rose Morrish, their high school drum teacher, who helped Flipo get into Box Hill Institute, where they majored in drums and obtained a Bachelor of Music.
Flipo set out to achieve their teacher’s ambition of travelling to America after Morrish died of cancer at the age of 31 in 2015.
They joined the band EMPRA as drummers and backup vocalists and toured the United States with them.
