Johnny Depp and Amber Heard were only married for two years, but they’ve had a lot of ups and downs since their 2016 divorce.
The Oscar contender and Aquaman actor met on the set of The Rum Diary, a 2011 film that began filming in early 2009. Depp was married to Vanessa Paradis at the time, and they had a daughter named Lily-Rose (born in 1999) and a boy named Jack (born in 2002).
In June 2012, the Pirates of the Caribbean star and the French singer confirmed their split. He and Heard started dating in the same year, but it wasn’t until January 2014 that they made their first public appearance as a couple when they attended a gala together.
The couple married in a low-key ceremony at Depp’s house in February 2015, followed by a larger, more opulent party on the actor’s own island in the Bahamas.
The difficulty, on the other hand, started straight soon. Heard and Depp made news shortly after their marriage when they brought their two canines, Pistol and Boo, to Australia without legal documents. Because of its numerous distinct types of flora and animals, the country maintains tight animal quarantine restrictions.
Following their agreement with the country, the two filmed a widely-publicized apologetic video in which they stressed the necessity of biosecurity.
The pair called it quits a month later. In May 2016, the Magic Mike XXL actress filed for divorce from Depp, claiming irreconcilable differences as the reason. Heard accused her former spouse of domestic assault and won a temporary restraining order against him two days after filing.
“Given the length of this marriage and the most recent and painful loss of his mother, Johnny will not reply to any of the salacious false reports, gossip, misinformation, and lies about his personal life,” a spokesman for the Finding Neverland actor said at the time. Hopefully, the divorce of this brief union will be completed swiftly.”
The couple struck an agreement in August 2016, and their divorce was formalized in January 2017. The ruckus, on the other hand, persisted long after their breakup.
