Steven Jude Hoffenberg was the former founder, CEO, president, and chairman of Towers Financial Corporation, a debt collection company that was later shown to be a Ponzi scheme. He was born in 1945 in Brooklyn, New York, in the United States of America. He died on August 23, 2022, at the age of 77.
At the beginning of the 1970s, Steven founded Towers Financial Corporation in New York City with the goal of buying consumer debt owed to hospitals, banks, and phone companies. He was the company’s president, chairman, and CEO, but ultimately it turned out to be a Ponzi scheme.
Hoffenberg first met Jeffrey Epstein in 1987. They collaborated closely and used Hoffenberg’s private plane to get everywhere. Steven Hoffenberg started using assets from Towers Financial to pay back previous investors and support an opulent lifestyle that included a Locust Valley, residences on Sutton Place in Manhattan and in Florida, as well as numerous automobiles and aircraft.
Steven and a few of his victims banded together in 2016 to sue Epstein and demand compensation. In court, Steven said that Epstein had been directly involved in Tower’s financial procedures and had been referred to as the “architect of the scam.”
