Ryu, a South Korean professional baseball pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball, was born on March 25, 1987. He formerly played for the Los Angeles Dodgers in MLB and the Hanwha Eagles in the KBO League.
Ryu was born in the South Korean city of Incheon. He was born on March 25, 1987, in Incheon, and attended Dongsan High School. At Daejeon University, he is pursuing a master’s degree in community physical education.
He became the first player from the KBO to join an MLB team via the posting system in 2013, following seven seasons with the Eagles. Ryu is the first Korean pitcher to take the mound in the World Series.
Ryu was named to his first career Major League Baseball All-Star Game in 2019. He led the Majors in earned run average (ERA) during that season, with a 1.26 ERA through his first 14 starts, the lowest by a Dodgers pitcher since the metric was introduced in 1912.
