Dame Deborah James has spoken about her anxiety about going asleep each night because she has no idea how long she has left.
The podcast host, who went by the online handle Colon Babe after campaigning to increase bowel cancer awareness, said two weeks ago that she was receiving end-of-life care at her family’s home in Surrey.
Dame Deborah was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016 and has since kept her 800,000 Instagram followers updated on her treatment with open updates about her progress and diagnosis.
Dame Deborah has revealed she is fatigued at the moment because she is “scared to sleep” after earning nearly £7 million for cancer organizations.
“I’m not intending on dying anytime soon,” she told The Sun.
“One of the main reasons I’m so exhausted is that I’m afraid of falling asleep. Going to bed makes me nervous.” Dame Deborah also discussed how her family has aided her when she began getting home care.
With her husband Sebastian Bowen, she has two children: Hugo, 14, and Eloise, 12. She expressed herself as follows: “My family has been great, going above and beyond to care for and nurse me. I suppose they’re all exhausted.
“In the last two weeks, I’ve witnessed true, profound love from them. It’s a lot to handle. Every single one of them has been incredible. I understand how much pressure they are under right now; I can’t do anything without their assistance.
