Elena Andreyevna Rybakina is a Russian professional tennis player of Kazakhstani origin. She is now ranked world No. 12 by the Women’s Tennis Association, which is a career-high for her and made her the first Kazakhstani player to reach the top 15.
She is the current Kazakhstani female No. 1 singles player. Rybakina has reached eight WTA Tour finals, including three at the WTA 500 level, winning two titles.
In juniors, Rybakina had a career-high ranking of No. 3, only beginning to produce noteworthy results very late in her junior career at the age of 17. At the Trofeo Bonfiglio, she won a Grade-A title in 2017 and reached two Junior Grand Slam semifinals.
Rybakina changed federations from Russia to Kazakhstan in June 2018, after breaking into the top 200 for the first time a month earlier. She did not have an individual coach as a junior and did not get a traveling coach until early 2019.
Her first sustained success on the WTA Tour came in mid-2019, highlighted by her first WTA triumph at the Bucharest Open and her top 100 debut.
Rybakina made her debut in the 2020 season, when she topped the tour with five finals, including four in her first five events of the year.
Rybakina, who stands 1.84 meters (6 feet 0 inches), has a good serve and can produce power with both her forehand and backhand. She primarily plays from the baseline and has an exceptional movement for her height.
