Is “The Most Hated Man on the Internet” a True Story?
Yes, The Most Hated Man on the Internet is a true story. By creating a fervent and sexist following who referred to themselves as “The Family,” Hunter Moore took great delight in the fact that he was able to “professionally wreck the lives of others.”
It was with the launch of the revenge porn center IsAnyoneUp.com that he began his ascent to notoriety. This website gave users the ability to upload nude images of men and women, generally without the subjects’ knowledge or consent.
Moore’s ascent to prominence is dissected in The Most Hated Man on the Internet, as is the mother who went to extraordinary lengths to hold her son accountable for all the suffering he caused.
This documentary series, which is comprised of three parts and was directed by Rob Miller and executive produced by Alex Marengo, focuses on Charlotte Law’s efforts to bring Michael Moore to justice.
The project also includes in-depth interviews with victims of Moore and the website, including people who were close to Moore and a member of his inner circle at one point. These interviews are exclusive to the project and are extremely personal.
The fact that there is still no legislation at the federal level involving revenge porn is probably one of the most stunning findings that have come to light throughout this series.
However, despite Charlotte’s efforts, there is currently no federal law in the United States that prohibits the abuse of personal images. These laws have been passed in 48 of the 50 states.
