In Belmont, North Carolina, Springs attended South Point High School. He played college baseball for the Mountaineers for four years (2012–2015) while earning a management degree at Appalachian State University.
Springs was selected in the 30th round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers, and he signed a one-year contract worth $1,000. The Texas Rangers were Jeffrey Scott Spring’s first professional team. Springs divided his first season between the Spokane Indians and the Hickory Crawdads after signing.
