According to information provided by his sister, music legend Jesse Powell has passed away at the age of 51.
The R&B singer and songwriter, who was originally from Indiana, passed away in his home in Los Angeles.
The cause behind his passing is not known at this time.
In a statement that was extremely upsetting to read, Powell’s sister Tamara wrote on Instagram, “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the demise of our beloved son, brother, and uncle Jesse Powell.” Jesse Powell had passed away.
“As we mourn this terrible loss and honor his life’s work that will go on forever, the family requests privacy at this difficult time.
“Jesse had a deep appreciation for music, and he felt an especially deep connection to the people who had supported him throughout his career. We want you to know that he placed the utmost importance on each and every one of you. – The Powells, the Family”
Powell is best remembered for the song “You,” which was originally released by him in 1996 and then re-issued by him the following year.
The song was able to rise all the way up to number ten on the Billboard Hot 100.
He is the older brother of R&B singers Trina Powell and Tamara Powell, both of whom come from the Powell family.
As news of Powell’s passing spread, members of the music community began paying respect to him.
