Jordan Montogomery, a pitcher with the New York Yankees in Major League Baseball, stands 6 feet 6 inches (1.98 m) tall and weighs 225 pounds (102 kg). He was better known by his nickname “Gumby.  In 2017, he made his MLB debut. Montgomery played college baseball for the South Carolina Gamecocks before turning pro.

Sumter High School in Sumter, South Carolina was his alma mater. He was a member of the baseball team at his high school and was voted state player of the year as a senior. Montgomery attended the University of South Carolina, where he was a member of the South Carolina Gamecocks baseball team. On April 9, 2012, he was selected Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week and a Freshman All-American.

After the college season, he pitched for the Gulf Coast Yankees of the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League and the Staten Island Yankees of the Class A-Short Season New York–Penn League, posting a 1–1 record with a 3.79 ERA in 19 innings.

He began his professional career with the New York Yankees when he was drafted in the fourth round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft, with the 122nd overall pick. He received a $424,000 signing bonus when he joined the Yankees.

Montgomery was placed on the injured list the next day with a flexor strain after leaving a game against the Houston Astros after one inning due to elbow tightness. He was expected to be out for 6–8 weeks. Montgomery tore his ulnar collateral ligament while throwing on flat ground during rehab a few days previously, and was forced to undergo Tommy John surgery, thereby ending his season. He returned to the Yankees on September 15.
