Kelis Rogers is an American singer. At age 14, she was admitted to New York’s Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where she learned to play the saxophone and won a spot in the Girls Choir of Harlem.
Bred in Manhattan’s Harlem area, Kelis Rogers ventured out from home at 16 and handled an arrangement with Virgin four years after the fact.
Having connected with the rising creation group the Neptunes, she gave foundation vocals on Noreaga’s “Superthug” and was included on Ol’ Dirty Bastard “Has Your Money.”
In December 1999, months after the arrival of the last option single, Kelis made her full-length debut with Kaleidoscope.
Created altogether by The Neptunes, the collection arrived at number 144 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S. what’s more, was more famous in the U.K., where it went gold.
“Gotten Out There” was the lead single and topped on the U.S. R&B/hip-bounce diagram at number nine. After two years, she and the Neptunes joined again for Wanderland.
Political reworkings inside the U.S. wing of Virgin forestalled a stateside discharge, which constrained Kelis to leave for Arista.
She responded in 2003 with Tasty. It yielded the number three pop hit “Milkshake,” yet another Neptunes production, and went to number 27 on the Billboard 200.
“Milkshake” was assigned for a Grammy in the class of Best Urban/Alternative Performance.
