Khalen Saunders plays defensive tackle in American football for the National Football League’s Kansas City Chiefs. He attended Western Illinois University and Parkway Central High School, where he was a football player.
Saunders had only one Division 1 scholarship offer, from Western Illinois, after playing high school football as a running back and defensive lineman at Parkway Central High School.
Saunders primarily played defensive line during his time at WIU, but he also had time on the offensive side of the ball, scoring a running and receiving touchdown throughout his career.
Following his senior season, he became the first Leatherneck to be invited to the Senior Bowl, where he earned praise from Oakland Raiders coach Jon Gruden for recording the game’s first sack on Will Grier.
Saunders also gained notice over the offseason when a video of him backflipping was shared on popular draft analyst Adam Schefter’s Twitter account; the tweet garnered more than 7,000 likes.
Saunders was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, 84th overall. Saunders won Super Bowl LIV with the Kansas City Chiefs, a 31–20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
