Popular British Conservative Party member Kwasi Kwarteng previously served as secretary of state for business, energy, and industrial strategy since 2010. He is currently 47 years old and was born on May 26, 1975.

Between 2021 and 2022, he held the position of Secretary of State for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy. From September to October of that same year, he worked under Liz Truss as Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Before running for office as an MP, he worked as a financial analyst and a columnist for The Daily Telegraph. Kwarteng was named the Department for Exiting the European Union’s Under-Secretary of State in November 2018.

Kwarteng was promoted to the position of Minister of State for Business, Energy, and Clean Growth in July 2019 when Boris Johnson was chosen as the new prime minister. This duty included attending cabinet meetings. Kwarteng received a promotion to Business Secretary in January 2021.

When Johnson announced his resignation in 2022, Kwarteng supported Liz Truss’s bid to become the Conservative Party’s leader. Following the selection of Truss as Prime Minister, Kwarteng was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer.

On September 23, Kwarteng released a “mini-budget” that featured several tax cuts, which drew heavy criticism and momentarily caused the value of sterling relative to the US dollar to reach an all-time low.

Kwarteng was fired as Chancellor on October 14 after just 38 days in office. He had the second-shortest tenure of any post-war chancellor behind Iain Macleod, who passed away while in office. Kwarteng was succeeded by Jeremy Hunt.

What is Kwasi Kwarteng’s Educational Qualification?

Kwasi Kwateng studied at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated with a double first in classics and history after being awarded one of the college’s classical scholarships, and at Harvard University, where he spent a year as a Kennedy Scholar.

He spent six years as a financial analyst in the City before returning to Cambridge to complete his history Ph.D.

Before being chosen for the Commons, Kwarteng worked as a financial analyst at companies such as JPMorgan Chase and others. Prior to that, he also penned columns for The Daily Telegraph.
