As a member of the YSR Congress Party, Reddy first entered politics in 2014 when he ran for the Atmakur constituency.
He defeated incumbent Anam Ramanarayana Reddy of the Indian National Congress and trounced his nearest rival GM Kanna Babu of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) with a majority of 31,412 votes cast for him.
On February 21, 2022, in Hyderabad, Reddy died of a heart attack.
