Michael Sussmann is an American former federal prosecutor and a former partner at the law firm Perkins Coie, who focused on privacy and cybersecurity law.
After two Russian hacking organizations breached Democratic National Committee (DNC) networks and stole information, Sussmann, who represented the DNC, hired CrowdStrike to investigate the servers of the DNC.
Sussmann was indicted for lying to the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in September 2021 by a grand jury that was empaneled by the investigation into the origins of the FBI Russia probe into possible links between Russian officials and associates of presidential candidate Donald Trump being conducted by special counsel John Durham.
The investigation was looking into whether or not there were links between Russian officials and associates of Trump.
Sussmann entered a plea of not guilty to the charge, and the proceedings for his trial started in May of 2022. Following a trial that lasted for two weeks, he was found not guilty of the charges.
