Croatian tennis player Nikola Mektic, born on December 24, 1988, was formerly ranked first in the world in doubles.
He has won two Grand Slam tournaments: the mixed doubles title at the 2020 Australian Open with Barbora Krejková and the men’s doubles title at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships with fellow countrymen Mate Pavi.
In October 2021, he became the second Croatian to hold the top spot in men’s doubles. With four different partners, Mektic has won 16 doubles titles on the ATP Tour, including six at the Masters 1000 level.
He and Koolhof also triumphed at the 2020 ATP Finals. In May 2013, he attained his highest singles rating of No. 213 in the world. Mektic and Pavi won the men’s doubles gold medal at the 2020 Olympic Games.
Mektic was a member of the Croatian team that won the 2018 Davis Cup.
