Paul Sorvino was an American actor, opera singer, businessman, writer, and sculptor. He often portrayed authority figures on both sides of the law and was known for his roles as Paulie Cicero (based on Paul Vario) in the 1990 gangster film Goodfellas, and NYPD Sergeant Phil Cerreta on the TV series Law & Order.
Throughout his film career, Sorvino portrayed real-life characters in a variety of dramatic situations. He played Italian-American communist Louis Fraina in Warren Beatty’s film “Reds”.
He was nominated for a SAG Award for his performance as Henry Kissinger in Oliver Stone’s Nixon. He also starred in such important films as Romeo + Juliet, The Panic in Needle Park, Dick Tracy, The Rocketeer, and The Firm with Tom Cruise, as well as in numerous television shows, such as The Simpsons, The Golden Girls, and The Simpsons: The Movie.
