Peng Liyuan, a Chinese soprano and modern folk singer who was born on November 20, 1962, is the spouse of Xi Jinping, the People’s Republic of China’s President and current General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party.

Peng became well-known as a singer as a result of her frequent appearances on the popular Chinese television program CCTV New Year’s Gala, which is broadcast throughout the Chinese New Year.

She has performed in musicals as a soloist. She won China’s top theatrical honor, the Plum Blossom Award, in 1986 for her leading part in The White Haired Girl. Between 2012 and 2017, she served as president of the People’s Liberation Army Academy of Art, and from 2005 to 2010, she served as vice president of the All-China Youth Federation.

She attended Hangzhou Foreign Language School, her high school, to study French from 2006 to 2008. In 2010, Xi began undergraduate studies at Harvard University in the US after completing a year at Zhejiang University.

Xi participated as a disaster relief worker in Hanwang, Mianzhu, for one week after the 2008 Sichuan earthquake.

She made her first public appearance in 2013 alongside her parents at the Liangjiahe village in Yan’an, Shaanxi, where they gave the residents wishes for the Lunar New Year. She has been regarded as having a passion for both reading and style.
