Who is Reese McGuire
Reese Jackson McGuire is a Major League Baseball catcher with the Toronto Blue Jays in Canada.
He was picked in the first round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates and traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in 2016. In 2018, he made his MLB debut.
McGuire was a member of the baseball team at Kentwood High School in Covington, Washington.
He also represented the United States in 18-and-under baseball contests, winning the International Baseball Federation 18-and-under Baseball World Championship and was named the player of the year.
In 2012, he won the Richard W. “Dick” Case Player of the Year Award presented by USA Baseball. He had committed to play college baseball for the San Diego Toreros baseball club at the University of San Diego.
McGuire’s proficiency behind the plate, as well as his left-handedness, made him an appealing target in the 2013 MLB Draft when he was predicted to be selected in the first round, unlike other high school catchers whose offensive skills were more developed than their defensive abilities.
He was taken 14th overall in the MLB draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates, and he signed a $2.36 million contract with the team.
McGuire was assigned to the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League (GCL) Pirates, where he had four hits, three RBI, and two doubles in his professional baseball debut.
McGuire was promoted to the Class A Short Season Jamestown Jammers of the New York–Penn League on August 31 after hitting.330 with 11 doubles and 21 RBI in 46 GCL games.
He only played in four games while there, going 4-for-16.
