American-born professional golfer Scott Alexander Scheffler, also known as Scottie Scheffler, competes on the PGA Tour. As of July 2022, he is ranked as the world’s top golfer by the Official World Golf Ranking. Scottie picked up golf at a very young age.
From 2014 through 2018, he accepted an offer to play golf for the University of Texas, where he helped the team win three Big 12 titles and was awarded the “Phil Mickelson Freshman of the Year” in 2015. He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Texas in 2018.
Scheffler achieved his first U.S. Open qualification in 2016. He started with a first-round 69 but dropped one stroke short of the cut with a second-round 78. His 2019 Web.com Tour card was obtained through a qualified institution. Scheffler tied for fourth place at the 2020 PGA Championship in August of that year, earning $528,000 in prize money.
He recorded a 12-under 59 at The Northern Trust in August 2020. His score was just the 12th sub-60 round in PGA Tour history and tied for the second-lowest round ever. In April 2022, he defeated Rory McIlroy by three strokes to win the Masters Tournament.
He was defeated by Sam Burns in a playoff at the Charles Schwab Challenge in May 2022 after Burns sank a 38-foot birdie putt. He placed T-2 at the U.S. Open, one stroke behind winner Matt Fitzpatrick
