Shane Peter McClanahan, a pitcher with the Tampa Bay Rays of Major League Baseball, was born on April 28, 1997. (MLB). In the year 2020, he debuted in Major League Baseball (MLB).
McClanahan grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was born and raised until he was five years old. In Cape Coral, Florida, he graduated from Cape Coral High School. He was 29–7 with a 1.02 ERA and 187 strikeouts in 123 innings pitched throughout his high school career.
In the 26th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft, he was selected by the New York Mets. He did not sign with the Mets and instead chose to play collegiate baseball at the University of South Florida (USF).
Following Tommy John’s surgery, McClanahan did not play his rookie year at USF in 2016. As a redshirt freshman, he returned from injury to start 15 games in 2017, going 4–2 with a 3.20 ERA with 104 strikeouts in 76 innings. In 14 starts as a redshirt sophomore in 2018, he went 5–6 with a 3.42 ERA.
