The second season of Netflix’s smash drama “Squid Game” has been teased with a short trailer and a message from the show’s creator, writer, director, and executive producer, Hwang Dong-Hyuk, revealing which characters will return.

The inaugural season of “Squid Game” premiered last year after a 12-year wait. “However, it took just 12 days for ‘Squid Game’ to become the most popular Netflix series ever,” says the statement from director Hwang.

Lee Jung-Jae will reprise his role as protagonist Seong Gi-hun, while masked adversary Lee Byung-hun will be back as the Front Man, according to Hwang’s announcement.
According to Hwang’s post, “The man in the suit with ddakji might come back.” He also mentions that the partner of Young-hee, the enormous killer animatronic doll, will be presented.
The statement concludes, “Join us once more for a brand new round.”
After the phenomenal popularity of the Korean series on Netflix, a second season of “Squid Game” was practically a given.
In the first four weeks of its release last fall, the first season of the streamer’s biggest TV show ever logged 1.65 billion hours of streaming.
It was only after Hwang intimated that there might be a second season that Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos announced that there will be a second season.
Since then, Hwang has hinted at the possibility of a sequel, suggesting that new episodes will likely begin airing by the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024 at the latest.
