The Houston Texans are a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) South division of the National Football League (NFL). They play their home games at NRG Stadium, which serves as their home field.

They were created in 1999 and owned by Bob McNair until his death in 2018; upon McNair’s death, the Texans were sold to his wife, Janice, who now owns the franchise in its entirety.

They took over for the city’s former NFL club, which had been in existence since 1960 but had since relocated to Nashville, where they became the Tennessee Titans in 1997. It was as an expansion club that the Texans first competed in 2002, making them the NFL’s youngest franchise presently participating in the league.

It was after the season that the team parted ways with head coach Dom Capers; he was replaced by Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak.
