Onstage at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday night, comedian Dave Chappelle was assaulted by a man who tackled him during his act.
The purported attacker was recorded on a gurney and placed into an ambulance to be transferred to a hospital, according to footage from AIR7 HD. The man stormed the stage and tackled Chappelle, according to witnesses at the concert who took to social media.
According to sources, Chappelle and the man fought on the stage before the man bolted behind a screen. Security personnel surrounded and tackled the man in the stage’s back corner.
The man was being “stomped,” Chappelle said as he ran toward the conflict. Chappelle repeatedly requested that the man be removed from the stage by security.
Chris Rock, who had performed earlier in the night, joined Chappelle on stage shortly after the incident and joked, “Was that Will Smith?”
Los Angeles police confirmed to Eyewitness News that they responded to an incident at the Hollywood Bowl at 10:45 p.m. and took into custody a guy who was allegedly equipped with a gun and a knife.
The attack appears to have left Chappelle unharmed, as the video posted to social media shows him continuing with his act. The Netflix Is A Joke Fest was where Chappelle, 48, was performing.
