Abi Phillips, a former Hollyoaks actress, has disclosed that she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 28.
The actress, who portrayed Liberty Savage in the Channel 4 show, broke the heartbreaking news to fans on Instagram immediately after receiving the tragic diagnosis.
“So, I took these pictures before my scans and after my biopsy having a good old laugh about how ridiculously dressed up I looked in the hospital before a gig, not expecting for one moment to get the news that I did two weeks later,” Abi told her followers, wearing a face mask and hospital gown in a series of selfies.
The actress went on to say that she had previously visited physicians to have two lumps in her neck checked but was informed there was nothing wrong with them.
However, for “peace of mind,” the celebrity sought a second opinion. Abi saw a specialist, who agreed with her that the lumps were alarming and advised her that she would need surgery and treatment.
Abi commended former Love Island actress Demi Jones, who underwent a complete thyroidectomy after being diagnosed in May 2021, for using her platform to raise awareness in a poignant message shared with her 12, 400 followers.
