Born on December 25, 1961, Ghislaine Noelle Marion Maxwell is a British convicted sex offender and former socialite.
In association with the millionaire and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, she was found guilty of child sex trafficking in 2021. On June 28, 2022, a New York court sentenced her to 20 years in jail.
Maxwell, who was French-born, was brought up in Oxford. She studied at Oxford’s Balliol College in the 1980s, after which she rose to prominence in London’s social scene.
After her father, Robert Maxwell, passed away in 1991, Maxwell continued to work for her father until relocating to New York City, where she continued to live as a socialite and started dating Epstein.
Due to her connections to Epstein, Maxwell was detained on July 2, 2020, and the federal authorities of the United States accused her of enticing children and trafficking underage females for sex.
Due to her “completely opaque” money, her prowess at avoiding detection, and the fact that France does not extradite its residents, the judge refused her bail due to her flight risk.
She was found guilty on five of the six counts, including one for trafficking in minors’ sex, on December 29, 2021. She will go on trial in court again for two counts of perjury related to Epstein’s exploitation of young girls.
