The New York Yankees are a professional baseball team from the United States, and they are based in The Bronx.
In Baltimore, Maryland, the team made its American League debut in 1901 and played there for two seasons under the name Orioles. Since 1980, the Yankees have won five World Series titles: 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2009.
The failing Baltimore team was bought in 1903 by Frank Farrell and Bill Devery, who then relocated it to New York, first to Hilltop Park (1903–12), one of Manhattan’s highest points, hence the name New York Highlanders.
The New York Yankees have taken part in 40 World Series, more than any other team, and have succeeded in winning 27 of them.
