For his then-girlfriend Emily Blunt, Bublé wrote the lyrics to “Everything.” He went on to say: “I wrote the song to celebrate the immense joy of true love while also making a political message.
We’re living in wild times, and I just wanted to express that no matter what happens, this person in my life is what makes everything worth it.”
Unlike most of Bublé’s previous work, this song is less large band-oriented, with pop and rock influences. It’s guitar-driven and doesn’t have any horns.
The song’s main theme is carried by a piano and an acoustic guitar, with electric guitars joining in at the chorus.
Bublé’s choral arrangement is also distinct from his past work; in most of his songs, his voice produces large interval shifts, but in this song, his voice is projected smoothly without moving into loud intervals.
It’s similar to his previous smash track from the album It’s Time, “Home.”
Bublé performs the song into a microphone in the music video, as well as holding an open audition for actors and performers to appear in the video, with the appropriate candidate being chosen at the end.
The video was uploaded to YouTube, where it has earned more than 50 million views to date.
In April 2007, the song topped the digital singles list in Italy, followed by a year later, in June 2008, when it topped the overall singles chart. In the video, Bono and Whoopi Goldberg appear as auditioners.
