Where did the Sanderson Sisters Come From?

The Sanderson Sisters were three witches who were hung on All Hallow’s Eve in 1693. They lived in Salem, Massachusetts, during the time of the Witch Hunt.

On Halloween night in 1993, a skeptic teenager called Max who thought the Sanderson Sisters legend was just a bunch of “Hocus Pocus,” brought the three sisters back to life three hundred years later.

The two younger Sanderson sisters, Mary & Sarah, are shown to have impressive skills in their own right while not being shown to have Winifred’s intelligence or finesse.

Sarah can beguile people by singing, just like Winifred, while Mary has an incredibly acute and powerful sense of smell. While Sarah’s singing skill charms kids, Winifred’s charms adults.

The prologue of Hocus Pocus 2 explored the Sanderson sisters’ history and altered how audiences perceived witches. Winifred, Mary, and Sarah Sanderson rose to fame as some of Disney’s most recognizable characters in the 1993 film Hocus Pocus.

The terrible past of Salem and the Sanderson coven, however, were more fully explored in Hocus Pocus 2 than they were in the first film’s stories.

Hocus Pocus 2 opens in 17th-century Salem like the first movie did, although Winifred, Mary, and Sarah Sanderson were introduced before they met Thackery Binx.
