Atlanta rapper Young Thug was arrested and charged with criminal gang activity in Georgia on Monday. According to court filings, Young Thug is one of 28 persons accused in a 56-count indictment for breaking Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations, or RICO, Act and engaging in illegal street gang activities.
According to the indictment filed in Fulton Superior Court, the claims revolve around YSL, or “Young Slime Life,” a street gang created in Atlanta in 2012.
According to the indictment, Young Thug, 30, whose actual name is Jeffery Lamar Williams, is one of three founding members of YSL. According to the indictment, YSL claims to be a member of the national Bloods gang.
Brian Steel, Young Thug’s lawyer, stated that his client is innocent and would be vindicated. “Mr. Williams has done no criminal offense.” We will fight this matter in an ethical, lawful, and diligent manner. “Mr. Williams will be exonerated,” Steel stated.
According to Fulton County Jail records, the Grammy-winning rapper was detained on Monday. There is no mention of a release date.
According to the indictment, Young is charged with two counts: conspiracy to violate RICO and involvement in criminal street gang activities.
