Coach Dave Merritt Biography
David Merritt, an American football coach for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League and a former linebacker for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League, was born on September 8, 1971. (NFL). The Miami Dolphins selected him in the seventh round of the 1993 NFL Draft.
He attended North Carolina State University and played football there. Merritt is a North Carolina native who was born in the city of Raleigh. Millbrook High School was his alma mater at the time (Raleigh, North Carolina). In 2012, Merritt was inducted into the Millbrook High School Hall of Fame.
Merritt became a defensive assistant and linebackers coach with the New York Jets in 2001. In 2004, the New York Giants hired Merritt as a defensive assistant and quality control coach. He was elevated to secondary and safeties coach in 2006.
With the Giants, Merritt won Super Bowls XLII and XLVI, both times defeating the New England Patriots. Merritt was named as the Arizona Cardinals’ new defensive backs coach on February 21, 2018.
Merritt was named as the Kansas City Chiefs’ new defensive backs coach on February 8, 2019. When the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV, Merritt received his third Super Bowl ring.
