Salvador Johan Pérez Diaz is a Venezuelan-American catcher for the Kansas City Royals in Major League Baseball. With 48 home runs, he owns the single-season Major League Baseball record for most home runs as the main catcher, surpassing Johnny Bench’s 45 in 1970.

Pérez was raised by his mother after his father abandoned him when he was four years old.  At the age of eight, he expressed an interest in playing catcher and decided to pursue a career as a catcher. When Pérez was 16 years old, the Royals signed him for $65,000. In 2008 and 2009, Pérez was a member of the Burlington Royals and Idaho Falls Chukars. In 39 games, he hit.331/.363/.473 with three home runs and 21 runs batted in.
