Dave Chappelle is an American stand-up comedian who was attacked on stage during his performance at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday. During the comedy session, a man ran up and leveled Chappelle to the ground before the intervention of the hired bodyguards at the venue.
It is unclear what the attacker wanted from the comedian or if he wanted to physically harm him but the Los Angeles police department stated that he was armed with a gun that was multifunctional as a knife. Chappelle was not injured after the attack but the assailant had to be hospitalized due to injuries that occurred when he was fought off by security.
The identity of the suspect is not yet been made public but the footage is circulating about the attack and a video that showed the assailant being taken into an ambulance after sustaining superficial injuries and a broken arm.
Chapelle later continued to joke about the attack saying ” was a trans man”. Not many people have taken lightly some transphobic comments made by the comedian as he believes his assailant is a transgender.
