At $215 billion, the Walton’s are the richest family in the world, owing to their massive stake in Walmart, the world’s largest company of revenue. They are the richest family in America and by some measures the wealthiest clan in the world.
At the top of the value chain in 2020, Jim and Alice Walton are each with $54 billion and ranked Number 8 and 9 respectively on Forbes annual list of billionaires.
The three most prominent living members Jim and Alice Walton have consistently been in the top twenty of the Forbes 400 list since 2001. Christy Walton took her husband Johns place in the ranking after his death.
The majority of the family’s wealth derives from the heritage of Bud and Sam Walton, who were the co-founders of Walmart.
Walmart is the worlds largest retailer, one of the worlds largest business enterprises in terms of annual revenue ad with over 2.2 million employees, the worlds largest private employer. As of December 2014, the Walton family collectively owned 50.8 percent of Walmart. In 2018, they sold some of their companies stock and now owns just under 50%.
