Arian Moayed was born on April 15, 1980, and is an Iranian-born American actor, writer, and director who grew up in Iran. Moayed was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his portrayal in Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo.
He also starred in the Tony Award-winning play The Humans, which won the award for Best Play. His performance as Stewy Hosseini in HBO’s Succession catapulted him to national recognition.
Moayed was born in the Iranian capital of Tehran. His father works as a banker in his day job. Following the Iranian Revolution in 1979, his parents left the country.
When Moayed was five years old, the family relocated to Glenview, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, where they have remained since. He is fluent in Farsi.
Moayed received his high school diploma from Glenbrook South in 1998. In 2002, he graduated with honors from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree. His college theater experience included performances in plays by Samuel Beckett, Carlos Goldoni, and William Shakespeare.
He is married to Krissy Shields and has two children, Olive Joon and Ivy Shireen. He resides in New York City.
