Albert Aroldis Chapman de la Cruz ( born February 28, 1988) is a Cuban-American Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the New York Yankees.
He previously played for the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs in Major League Baseball, as well as for Holgun in the Cuban National Series. Chapman is known as the “Cuban Missile” or the “Cuban Flame Thrower” because he bats and throws left-handed. Chapman pitched for Holgun both domestically and for the Cuban national baseball team overseas.
In 2009, he emigrated from Cuba and signed a contract with the Reds. That season, Chapman made his MLB debut. From 2012 to 2015, he was nominated to four consecutive National League All-Star teams, winning the MLB Delivery Man of the Month Award as the best relief pitcher for July 2012.
After the 2015 season, the Reds traded Chapman to the Yankees, who then traded him to the Cubs for the 2016 season. Chapman won Game 7 of the 2016 World Series with the Cubs. After the 2016 season, he signed with the Yankees.
