Daniel Jacob Radcliffe was born in Fulham, London, England, on July 23, 1989, to casting agent Marcia Gresham (née Jacobson) and literary agent Alan Radcliffe.
His father comes from a Protestant family in Northern Ireland, whereas his mother was born in South Africa to a Jewish family (from Lithuania, Poland, Russia, and Germany).
