Between the years 1957 and 1967, Wilson played a total of 373 games for the club, and he also earned 22 caps for Scotland.
It was stated in August of the previous year by Wilson’s family that he would no longer be attending matches at Ibrox owing to “ongoing Alzheimer’s and cognitive concerns.”

During his tenure at Ibrox, Wilson was a part of the club that reached the final of the European Cup Winners Cup in 1961 and won 11 domestic titles throughout the course of his time there.
Wilson’s playing career came to a close at Dumbarton after he had completed over 100 games for Dundee United following his departure from Rangers in 1967 at the age of 28. Wilson had played for Rangers from 1953 to 1967.
Wilson later became the manager of Dumbarton, whom he guided into the Scottish Premier League in 1984. He also had a stint as the manager of Queen of the South throughout his career.
